Show Proper exercise good for heart Some scientific studies show that men who lead sedentary lives run a higher risk of heart attack than those who get regular reg-ular exercise. Ask the Utah Heart Association, 250 East First South, Salt Lake City, 84111, for the free booklet "Why Risk Heart Attack." It tells about the risk factors in heart attack. Exercise tones the muscles, stimulates the circulation, and helps to avoid overweight. This does not mean that you should shovel snow in winter, or play a hard game of tennis in season, sea-son, if you are not used to such exertion. Strenuous and unaccustomed unac-customed activity occasionally brings on a heart attack in an apparently healthy person who has atherosclerosis of the coronary cor-onary arteries. Ask your doctor how much exercise you should take, in accordance ac-cordance with your age and physical condition. He will probably suggest that you increase in-crease your physical activities gradually. You can't go wrong, at least, by walking when it isn't absolutely necessary to ride. And you may want to take up a sport you will enjoy if you doctor says you are fit for it. For advice about your heart, always ask your doctor; for information in-formation ask your Heart Association. |
