Show State plans well-testing program tEiroygSiouf south section off county As a result of the well water shortage which has occurred in past summers, the state engineer, engi-neer, Hubert Lambert, met with interested per sons Tuesday, December 27, and explained a well test program to help solve the problem. The problem is now critical and immediate for most farm facilities in the area. ar-ea. Mr. Lambert explained that everyone in the valley should be concerned with future water development. As the county Kenneth Metcalf, In a close vote, was named president of the Chamber of Commerce for the second time, Wed. and each municipality grows, the need for pure water becomes be-comes more critical. A test is necessary in order to control the wells being1 pumped during critical periods without curtailng the pumping of the wells which are not affecting af-fecting the area. Mr. Lambert has gained the cooperation of the federal government through the U.S. Geological Survey in order to conduct the test. Comprehensive study A number of local pump tests have already been conducted which will be correlated with, this test being made. However, this test will be a comprehensive comprehen-sive study of the available water wa-ter from Springville to Santa-quin Santa-quin and is necessary because the other tests are not sufficient suffic-ient to provide an effective well control program. The test is planned to take place starting the middle of January because the underground under-ground water table is the most stable at that time and the effects ef-fects of the wells being pumped pump-ed will be determined precisely. It is not feasible to conduct this test in the summer because too many wells are pumped at that time and the effects of any one well or aquifer cannot be determined. There will be five large wells pumped and approximately 50 small wells from which pres1-sure pres1-sure data will be taken. The Springville City well and Ma-pleton Ma-pleton City well are both included in-cluded in the five selected for the test. The state engineers office and the U.S. Geological Survey will furnish the manpower man-power for conducting the test. The money to pay for pumping will have to be raised among the well users on a proportionate proportion-ate basis. According to Sterling Jones, leader of the well group, the main objective of this study is to make a cooperative test which will provide an effective water control and development program without litigation. |
