Show Springville man heads BYU research group Grant S. Thorn of this city has been named president of an organization composed of leading businessmen of the country, to be known as the Brigham Young Research Foundation. Purpose of the organization or-ganization is to build industry and income for BYU. Present at the organization meeting in Wlkinson Center at BYU to give his blessing to the venture was President N. Eldon Tanner of the First Presidency of the LDS Church. I "The First Presidency and the Board of Trusteees of the University appreciate your ac- ceptance of this responsibility," he told the executives. "BYU - is contributing to the welfare - of the Church as much as any - other thing. The results can-5 can-5 not be measured." Explaning that the Church 1 has contributed a considerable ' share of its income to the op- eration of the school, President ' Tanner continued "BYU has a .definite responsibility and must continue. The work you will do will help finance the educational program of the Church." New officers besides Mr. Thorn are, vce presidents, G. Ken n e t h Handley, partner, Goodby & Co.; William F. Edwards, Ed-wards, president, First Securities Securi-ties Investment Corp., and Sidney Horman, presdent, Hor-man Hor-man Construction Co., all of Salt Lake City; Kline D. Strong, attorney, Salt Lake City, secretary; J. Hamilton Calder, manager, Walker Bank of Provo, treasurer Type of projects which the corporation will undertake: Establishment of possible research re-search and industrial paries. Development of jobs for students. stu-dents. Assistance in the patenting, manufacture and marketing of discoveries resulting from research re-search at the University.
