Show Investigation of accidents of firearms made A total of 34 firearms accidents acci-dents were investigated by Department De-partment of Fish and Game officers of-ficers in 1965 according to a report issued today. Fifteen of these accidents were not classed as hunting accidents ac-cidents because they did not occur in the field in the course of a hunting trip. Nineteen of the 34 accidents occurred in the field during the course of a hunting trip. Three of these were fatal. Of the sixteen nonfatal hunting accidents, five involved juveniles juven-iles who were not old enough to purchase a proper license and did not have a certificate indicating they passed a hunter safety course. Two of the fatal hunting accidents occurred during the deer season, the other during a game bird season. Juveniles were responsible for 21.6 of this year's hunting hunt-ing accidents. This is an increase in-crease from 1964 and is due to the five juveniles who were involved in accidents who were not old enough to hunt. Licensed juvenile hunters continue con-tinue to show an impressive safety record, an example many of our older hunters should follow. |
