Show Marine trains in Far East Marine Private Dennis A. Olsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Al-an V. Olsen of 1035 E. 100 S., Springville, a member of ! the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division, completed advanced combat training with his battalion bat-talion June 30. The training was in preparation for his unit's un-it's transplacement overseas to the 3rd Marine Division on Okinawa. Entire battalions in the transplacement system move as units from California to the Far East as part of a continuous continu-ous training and replacement cycle. While in the Orient, the j battalion will undergo moun-tain moun-tain warfare and cold weather training in Japan, counter-insurgency warfare, training on Okinawa and in the Republic of the Philippines and take part in amphibious operations throughout the Western Pa-j cific. After approximately thirteen months in the Far East, the battalion will return to Camp Pendleton for advanced mountain, moun-tain, desert and amphibious training exercises. |
