Show Steel industry big user of electricity The 38.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity power consumed con-sumed by the iron and steel industry in-dustry last year set a record and was equivalent to the power usage of New York City plus eight cities with the requirements re-quirements of Denver, American Ameri-can Iron and Steel Institute said today. Electric power companies supplied about two-thirds of the steelmakers' needs during 1964, while the industry generated gener-ated the remainder itself. The former peak consumption consump-tion of electric power by iron and steel companies came to a little more than 33.6 billion kilowatt kil-owatt hours during 1963. |
