Show Devils dig in for Dino battle here friday night Springville High School's rangy Red Devils will sharpen their prongs to thwart the upcoming up-coming Dinos of Carbon when the two cage clubs trade shots here Friday night. The game will begin at the usual 8 p.m., time and will be preceded by the junior varsity game at 6:15. After a disheartening 72-56 loss to the small, but cagey BY High team here last Friday night, the Red Devils will have to team up if they are to bounce back on the victory trail and remain in contention for a tourney spot. Three teams are currently tied for second spot, Springville, Spring-ville, Spanish Fork, and Carbon, Car-bon, all of which are two full games behind the league-leading Provo five. Carbon tipped Spanish on their home court last Friday and has been improving im-proving in league play over preseason pre-season games. Unless the Springville team is playing top ball, it will find the going pretty pret-ty tough Friday. Coach Jensen is working hard with his talented tal-ented boys to get them speeded up on the court as well as in basket making. In losing to BY High, the Red Devils were clearly out-shot out-shot and out-hustled. The Wildcats Wild-cats hit a respectable 43.1 per cent getting 25 out of 58 shots. The Devils had plenty of opportunity, oppor-tunity, shooting 61 shots, but only connectig for 21 for a 3.4 per cent. BY High's combination of Denham and Hatch opened the scoring in the game and took a 3-0 lead while the Red Devils were missing several close-in shots. Bird connected finally, and then Shepherd hit for 6, Thorpe, 4, as the quarter closed clos-ed wih BY High leading 14-17. Valgaardsen, Denham and Hatch led the Wildcat scoring in the second quarter while Taylor, Shepherd with 6, and Bird with a beautiful hook, shot from the corner, did all the scoring for the Devils as the half ended 25-32 when Berge scored a sensational long shot just as the buzzer sounded. sound-ed. Bird got 6, Nielson 2, Thorpe 5, Shepherd 2, and Taylor 2 in the third period, while Denham, Berge and Valgaardson had a big quarter to continue the BY High lead 49-42. Berge, Valgaards en and Hatch led a fourth quarter rally ral-ly that saw the Wildcats run up 15 points to the Red Devils 4 in the first five minutes of play. Spriingville's subs came into the game at this point and Christensen hit 5, Averett 4 and Jensen 1, to complete the scoring as the Wildcats coasted coast-ed to an easy 72-56 final score. Bird was top scorer with 16, Shepherd got 14 and Thorpe 9. Denham hit 20 for the winners. The Wildcats were at the free throw lane 35 times while Springville got 20 shots, hitting hit-ting 14.
