This will gratify some people, and astonish aston-ish the rest." The proposed Nebo Ne-bo School District Bond Issue is right! It is also a step in the "right" direction to provide better learning facilities for Nebo's children. Over two years ago. I began to talk "bonding" to our Board of Education. Since that time, two comprehensive studies have been made and presented both have indicated conclusively conclusive-ly that, if Nebo District intends to stay in the forefront of the major districts in Utah with Improved educational programs, newer and better facilities must be provided. To hold the status quo is not enough. Early in November the Nebo School Board recommended a $4,000,000 bond election to finance fi-nance two new high schools for the District one to be built in Springville; the other, in Pay-son. Pay-son. In accordance with present plans, both are to be constructed construct-ed simultaneously. The times in which we live make many of yesterday's goals, practices and facilities obsolete. That being the case Nebo's public school system dares not be less magnificant in scope and design than the society which it must sustain. Your Board of Education does not propose to raise the capita) outlay tax levy which has been set at 18 mills since 1961 (These are monies that can be used only for purchase of sites construction of new buildings and purchase of furniture). At the present time, by bonding, bond-ing, patrons of the Nebo School District have the opportunity to secure new buildings without an additional mill levy or tax increase.- If this bond issue does not pass, and Nebo continues con-tinues to grow at an accelerated acceler-ated rate, I may have no re- |
