Loss of fish from suffocation suffoca-tion may come high in Utah -this spring following one of the longest, coldest winter seasons sea-sons on record. Extent of these losses will not be known until the winter ice cover has cleared from the lakes. ' In some higher elevation waters this may not occur until after the May 30 opening of the regular reg-ular fishing season. Already noted is a heavy loss of the larger trout in Brigham City Reservoir at Mantua. Recent water samples taken under the ice at Sheep Creek and Schofield reservoirs indicate losses there as the oxygen ox-ygen content in the sample areas ar-eas was becoming extremely critical. Don Andriano, department of fish and game fisheries chief, said any fish losses would be publicized just as soon as they are noted and confirmed. He asked that anyone noting such losses report them to a local officer or regional fish and game office. |
