Show Marrio it reveals results of survey WASHINGTON, D.C. -The majority of Utahns : think the MX missile is the most critical issue facing Utah today and would favor a "sea-launched "sea-launched missile strategy," according to the results of a questionnaire to ,be released this week by Rep. Dan Marriott, R-' Utah. Marriott's six-question survey was mailed to" the' 247.000 households in Utah's Second Congressional District in March. The results were based oh 7,154 responses received as of June 5. Answering the question, "In your opinion, what are the three most critical issues facing the state of Utah today?" 63 percent of those responding said the MX missile development issue, ' 52 percent said general growth and planning problems and 44 percent said government spending. In answer to the question, "If given a choice of MX basing plans would you prefer: (a) deployment of the site in Utah and Nevada, (b) a sea-launched missile strategy, (c) split basing between Utah, Nevada. New Mexico and Texas, (d) deployment in existing missile silos and (e) other?", 46 percent of those responding chose a sea-launched strategy, 18 percent chose deployment in existing silos, 17 percent chose deployment in Utah and Nevada, 14 percent chose other and 11 percent said they prefered split basing. In other questions 61 percent of the respondents respon-dents said funding for national defense should be increased (16 percent said it should be decreased and 23 percent said it should be left the same), and 40 percent of those responding said the national defense issue is one of the three most critical issues facing America today |
