Show Iron County residents plan July 4th activities Independence Day is Saturday, and plans are now finalized in various towns and cities of Iron County concerning the giant birthday party. Parades, programs, games, food and fireworks seem to be the most common activities throughout the area. Cedart'ity In Cedar City, the day will start at 6 .- ' a,m. with a "Good Morning Salute" by the Iron County Fire Department. This will be followed with a flag raising at 6:110 a.m. at the City Park. A half-marathon and a four-mile Mayor's Cup run will start at 8 a.m. up Cedar Canyon. A parade, conducted by the Lady Lions, will start at 'J a.m. and proceed down Main Street. This will be followed by concessions at the park, followed by children's games and loot races at 10:15 a.m. The day will be topped off with a fireworks display southwest of the City at D:30 p.m. The fireworks, as well as most of the activities of the day, are sponsored by the Lions Club. The club is also selling "Fireworks" badges lor $1 each to help defray the cost of such. Parowan ' Parowan will be seeing the Fourth of July in with a "bang." Festivities begin with a daybreak salute from the old cannon. This will be followed at 9 a.m. with a parade. The theme will be "America: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow," and prizes will be awarded to the test floats, bicycles and wagons. Immediately after the parade there will be an "anything goes" contest on the First and Second Ward LDS Church east lawn. The sports event is sponsored spon-sored by the Fire Department. At 2 p.m. events move to the race track for a meet sponsored by the Red Hill Wranglers. Fireworks will conclude con-clude the day at dusk. Co-chairmen of the events are Wayne and Valarie Townsend and Jim and Marie Green. Cedar Valley The Cedar Valley Lions Club will host a variety of activities on the Enoch LDS Church Park lor Enoch and Cedar Valley residents and their guests. The Fourth of July Carnival will , lH'ginat J0:Oa.n. The park is just east ol the intersection of Midvalley Road and the Minersville Highway. Events will include games for everyone and hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks. salads and desserts. There will also be a horse shoe pitching pit-ching tournament at 10:30 a.m. at the Dennis Ohms pits. Kanarraville Kanarraville activities will begin with a flag raising ceremony at sunrise, lo be lollowed by a breakfast on the park at 7 a.m. This will be lollowed by a parade down Main Street at 10 a.m. and a program at the LDS Church at 10:30. A bake sale will immediately follow. Children's sports will begin on the park at 4 p.m.. to be followed by a baseball game at 5. The day will conclude con-clude with a town supper on the park at 7:30 p.m. Paragonah Paragonah will begin celebrating at 9:3()a.m. with a children's parade down Main Street. At 10 a.m. there will be a public meeting in the LDS Church cultural hall. Immediately following there will be children's races and games, along w ith a picnic lunch on the church lawn. New Castle New Castle residents will celebrate the clay with a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m.. lollowed by a breakfast, cooked and served by the Boy Scouts, at 9:30 a.m. |
