Show Deputies arrest two; confiscate marijuana The Iron County Sheriff's Department Depart-ment has in its custody over $40,000 in marijuana plants and two suspects as a result of weekend investigations in Hamblin Valley in western Iron County. Two brothers, Michael, 20, and Sheldon Shreve, 24, were arrested Sunday morning by deputies Wayne Holt and Hon Gardner. According to Holt, an informer had told the department about a suspicious vehicle and U-llaul trailer pulling into the cedar trees in the deserted valley. When the deputies arrived, they allegedly lound the two unloading Hi mature marijuana plants from the trailer. Upon lurther investigation, said Holt. : Hi small, growing plants were found being cultivated in the area. Al that ' time the two were arrested for ' producing a controlled substance, a third degree lelony. The two deputies, along with others, returned that evening to find 46 more of the plants. All were hybrid plants of the ! linest quality, said Holt, estimating 1 that they could be sold on the street for at least $4(1.000. The deputies impounded the vehicle and the trailer, as well as paraphrenalia, hashish, pills and seeds allegedly lound in the car. The two deputies, assigned to the western end of the County, were in the area investigating other incidents leading to an earlier arrest in Modena. Craig Whitney, 21, lormcrly of Las Vegas and now of Modena, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and burglary said Holt. There are also two other suspects, and arrests are pending, he added. Whitney is accused of entering a cabin m llamhlin Valley and leaving with an as-yet-undetermined amount of property. Holt said that the arrest came after surveillance of the area. He also noted that this type of burglary has become a problem in the remote valleys of the County. "This particular thing has been taking place in the Hamblin Valley area lor three or lour ears." he said, and lias become an irritation lo ranchers and land owners. |
