Show SUSC: Golf squad A golf squad of seven at Southern Utah State College will become six after the Thunderbirds opened their spring season Mar. 13 at Bloomington's Bloom-ington Bloom-ington Hills Course. Coach Tom Kingsford planned to use the meet with California Lutheran as a final squad limitation : as well as the first meet of 1981. "We can only carry six players, so we will let those six with the best scores against Cal Lutheran make up the squad," Kingsford says. Eight meets will be included ' on the spring schedule. In addition to three meets at Bloomington Hills, the .Thunderbirds also have meets . scheduled at Tucson, Ariz.; Grand Junction, Colo.; and Phoenix. Two seniors, one junior, two sophomores, and two freshmen are among the final seven battling for a berth on the squad. Two hopefuls, Dean Cooper and Scott Stephens are previous letterwinners. "Compared to last year, I would say that we have first-line talent that is at least comparable, and our depth is probably better," Kingsford evaluates. Kingsford figures that the Thunderbirds should be among the top three teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and should place well up in the NAIA District 7 meet. "Right now, from the sketchy information we have, I'd say that Fort Lewis and Western State will be the probable favorites in the conference," con-ference," Kingsford said. |
