Bolton of the Cedar City Police Department is praising the work of two patrol officers in the prevention of what appeared to be a major attempted commercial com-mercial burglary last week. The chief commended Officer Lynn Davis and Sergeant Steve Warby for arresting two men early last Thursday outside Cedar City's Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. According to the commendations, Officer Davis observed two men standing at the rear of the restaurant at 3 a.m. Thursday while the officers of-ficers were patroling the downtown district As the patrol car approached ap-proached the area, the two men, according to Officer Davis, hid in some shrubbery on the southeast corner of the building. With some difficulty, the officers" eventually found and removed the men from their hiding places and allegedly found a cache of burglar tools in the .hushes. The men, George Hatcher, 27, and James T. Smith, 36, both of Los Angeles, Calif., were arrested for possession of burglar tools and jailed in lieu of $300 bond. Hatcher and Smith were arraigned in Ninth Circuit Court on the charges Friday. Chief Bolton complimented com-plimented Officer Davis on his alert police work and credited the men with ' preventing what, according to the commendation, com-mendation, could have been a major burglary of the local restaurant. Lynn Davis has been with the Cedar City Police Department since April, 1979 as a patrol officer. Steve Warby is currently a patrol sergeant, and since joining the department over four years ago has worked as a patrolman and a detective before his promotion last year. |
