Parowan had a tough time against the defending 1-A state champion Beaver Beavers Friday night. The referee spent a lot of his time during the game with his hands above his head, signaling Beaver touchdowns. Rams find road to Beaver rough By BRUCE LEE Record Asst. Editor Playing Beaver at Beaver isn't exactly an opposing coach's dream come true. Beaver Coach Al Marshall has lost very few games during the past 10 years and even fewer at home. The Parowan Rams learned that lesson the hard way Friday when they returned home from Beaver after suffering a 64-0 loss at the hands of the defending Class A State Champs. Things went poorly for the Rams from ' the beginning. Parowan was able to only advance the ball four yards on their first series of offensive plays, then the team was forced to punt. The punt was the first of two blocked by a strong Beaver defense. Beaver recoverd the ball on Parowan's 14-yard line, setting up the first touchdown two plays later on a pass from senior quarterback Burton Myers to Neil Marshall. Myers also added the point after. This was followed only minutes later by another Beaver TD, culminating a 39-yard, six-play drive. The score came on a 3-yard plunge by fullback Todd Plumb. Again, the PAT was added by Myers. The first quarter ended with a score of 16-0, soon after a two-point safety leveled against Parowan after another Doug Rogerson punt was blocked and downed in the Ram's endzone. The second quarter went much like the first, with Beaver scoring three times, arid an iron defense holding the Parowan team well away from the goal line. Early in the second quarter, following a Parowan fumble, Beaver scored from the 1-yard line. The kick by Myers for the PAT failed. Freshman quarterback Steven Hutchings added the final two s?cores of the half with two soft, arching passes to Donnie Roberts and Robbie Ey re. The first was thrown from the 29-yaird line after a Parowan fumble once again turned the ball over to Beaver. The second, from the 41, came with 5: 43 left in the half. Myers added both PATs. Second half trouble for the Hams began with the second play of the half, when Beaver recovered still anotner Parowan fumble. Beaver then put on one of its longest and most sustai ned drives and went 33 yards in eight plays, scoring on a three-yard quarterback keeper by Myers with 8:26 remaining in the quarter. Myers also added the PA T. Parowan punted after an unsuccessful! un-successful! series deeD in its own territory, and Beaver once again moved quickly to pay dirt. Cm a fourth and six situation on Parowan's 49 yard line, Beaver auarterback Myers faked the expected punt &'nd ran 35 yards to the 16-yard line, setting up a 4-yard Jess Cox TD run two plays later. Myers kicked the PAT, ending the third quarter at 50-0. The fourth quarter heaped misery upon niiserv on the Rams, who desperately fought against a strong Beaver offense and an even stronger defense. Travis E'radshaw scored early in the qua rter on a two-yard dash through a large hole up the middle. Freshman Hutchings added the final blow of the night (his third) by turning a broken play into a 45-yard jaunt to the goal line. Fine blocking cleared the way for him as the ifianl gun went off. Myers added one final PAT, for a score of 64-0 |
