Show Youth Training Urged By Center Wd. Speakers "Train the boy and girl early in childhood and avoid the problems of later years," was the council given by Antone R. Romney, of the General Sunday school board in his Sunday evening address in the Center ward services held in the Tabernacle. Reviewing the increase in juvenile delinquency in the state and nation during the past two years, Mr. Romney expressed a disbelief in the need of mothers entering defense work to the extent of neglecting their children whose delinquency will bring distress that will out-balance the good mothers can do in war plants. The other speaker was David Gourley, who related interesting experiences in connection with his coming to St. George 31 years ago as coach for Dixie college, the life of his family since that time, and the happy memories they have of their years in Dixie. He encouraged parents not to forget their obligations to their children in spiritual as well as scholastic training and urged young people to study the lives of their pioneer forbears and endeavor to make equal contributions to the progress prog-ress of humanity. A special music number for the occasion was the ensemble with three violins, the cello and the vibraharp, featuring Mrs. Ellis Everett, Milton Schmutz and Dwane Gentry, Paul Thompson and Mrs. Evan S. Pickett, with Gounod's "Ave Maria", and Bach's "Prelude". There was a large attendance at the meeting. |
