Show HURRICANE Mrs. Thomas Ilinton (AUNT JIINA) Reporter Mrs. Densie Beams was very happy to have her son, Cpl. Kue Beams and wife and son home for a short visit. He landed in New York from Italy on July 25. He spent 8 months in Africa and 19 months in Italy. He was a member of the 99th Bomb Group, whose objective was to bomb the enemy's oil refineries. He has two presidential. citations for outstanding outstand-ing bombing, and 12 battle stars. He reports at Ft. Douglas on September 5 for further assignment. assign-ment. He spent part of his furlough fur-lough in Burley, Idaho, with his wife and baby before coming here. She will return to Burley while he is in the service. SSgt. John L. Haywood Jr. visited vis-ited his parents, J. L. Haywood Sr. last week. He has been in the Pacific more than three years. He was in the radio division as an instructor and has now been honorably discharged from the service. Cpl. Orville Isom, who is with the Army Intelligence Division, has been transferred from North Carolina to Texas. ' Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Hoyt, and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Spendlove attended the annual race, meet at Parowan on Saturday. Sgt. Ashby Reeve is home on a 30-day furlough from Italy. Cpl. Arnold Cannon has received re-ceived his honorable discharge from the army. Pfc. Grandon Allred of Spanish Fork visited over the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. George Shamo. He has been in Europe 2 years and is home on a 30-day furlough. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Slack and two daughters, Jessie Lou and Joy of Logan, visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Graff. Henry W. Setzer also spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Graff. His wife, the former Dawn Graff, and small daughter, who have spent the summer with her parents, returned home with him. Mr. and Mrs. Greg Austin and three children, and Mrs. Austin's mother, Mrs. Maud Toronto of Provo, spent Sunday at the Chauncey Sandberg home. Mrs. Walter Spendlove spent last week here putting up fruit for the winter. Her husband spent the week-end here, as did Mr. and Mrs. Mads Gibson. Woodbury is visiting in Logan with her daughter Eva-lyn Eva-lyn (Mrs. P. H. Barksdall). The Misses Rcba and Helen Roundy have returned from New Mexico where they spent three weeks with relatives. They also attended a three-day "Intertribal Indian Ceremonial." Reba's nephews, neph-ews, Rex Sylvester and Don Webster, Web-ster, went with them but came back a week ago. They say they saw a lot of things of interest. Webb Barber was operated on for appendicitis last week in the Iron County Hospital. Mrs. Clarence Taylor and two children, of Ogden, are visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Perkins. Mrs. Eva Webb entertained the Ladies Literary Club at her home on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Heaton entertained en-tertained a number of their relatives, rela-tives, friends and neighbors at a lawn party on. Wednesday evening, eve-ning, it being their 45th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Reed Scvy and son, of Salt Lake City, are visiting with Mrs. Jessie Gibson. Alston W. Isom and wife and three children are spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gates and family. Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Wilson have returned home from northern California, where lliey have filled a six-months' mission for the church. Their daughter, Ruth (Mrs. Tony Bagozzine) and husband hus-band brought them home. The Ragozzines will visit here for a short time. Mr. and Mrs. Carlyle Wilson and son are moving to Draper where they will make their home. Lt. Paul Sullivan is home on a 75-day terminal furlough. His wife is with him. They are going to San Francisco, Calif., where he will study child dentistry at the University of San Francisco. Three children were christened in the South Ward sacrament meeting Sunday, and one in the North Ward. Nina was the name given to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert isom's daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Al-len Humphries named their daughter Carla; Mr. and Mrs. La-Nar La-Nar Spendlove named theirs Mai lie Lou, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cornelius gave their baby the name, Coline. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Dutlon and I wo children have moved here from Ml. Trumbull. Jake Williams rame home from .as Vegas where he has had employment, em-ployment, during the summer. He will nl lend Hurricane High school. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Elder and Telephones From Rome At noon, August 28, Mrs. Lillie Slade of Central answered the telephone and was given the surprise sur-prise of her life when the operator opera-tor told her that Rome, Italy, was calling. It was her son, Lt. Clark Slade, who is stationed in Italy, and called her while on a week's rest in Rome. She reports his voice came as clearly as if he were in the next room. He said he is well and is looking forward to when he can go fishing again in the old Santa Clara creek, and hopes it won't be long until he will be on his way home. |
