Show U. S. Grazing Service Reports Building Of 58.7 Miles Of Road The U. S. Grazing Service reports re-ports that through their access road funds they have constructed 58.7 miles of roads in the Virgin Grazing District, which includes Washington and Iron counties. Washington County has been considerably benefitted by the construction of 21 miles of good road on the north fork of the Virgin River east of Zion Park. This road was constructed primarily pri-marily to furnish lumber to So. Utah and alleviate the shortage due to the war. However, this road will be of great service to the ranchers, livestock interests and the public in general. The district grazier wishes to report that approximately 2500 acres of artificial reseeding to crested wheat grass has been completed in the Virgin District, the majority in Iron County. This has been done in three major areas, namely: Upper Hamblin Valley east of the little mining town of State Line; Little Valley in the north end of Iron County west of the Buckhorn flats; and along the Minersville road north of the Parowan Gap. The procedure proce-dure has been to rail the sagebrush sage-brush and scatter crested wheat grass at the same time. It is necessary nec-essary to get rid of the sagebrush to give the crested wheat grass seedlings a chance for the moisture mois-ture and fertility. The railing of. the sagebrush will also give the surviving native grass an opportunity oppor-tunity to thrive. About 27 miles of a four-strand barbed wire fence has been built of which 15 miles, is in the Mud Springs area northwest of Cedar City on the Lund road. This fence is for the purpose of controlling the Cedar City and Parowan cat- tle. The remainder is in Washirm ton County in the Price-Atkinvill area and along the Utah-Arizonf "3 state line. zona "j |
