Mrs. James Wulffenstein. Mrs. Paul Scgmiller and Mrs. Gerald Seegmillor. who attended the special school on this disease at Pine Crest Inn over last week. This is the first known volunteer volun-teer school of this kind ever held to date, and is receiving wide acclaim ac-claim through newspa)crs and II Id g JZlIltS. O Ul It- tlllU !lrti:ui!ci t. -. ports, both men and women, on child health, gave the instruction i and demonstrations on the pre-1 vention, control and treatment of . the dread polio which has claimed several victims during the past few weeks, in and around Salt Lake Ci'y. I P.esearch and experience have developed the assurance that Polio j i is not a fever contagion, but that ; the virus which causes it is car- j ; ried by blow flies of various types from sewage and other waste on to fruits and other foods, and i these germs are taken into the child's intestinal tract through the mouth. They urged, therefore, great caution in carefully washing all fruits possible with soap and I water, followed by thorough rinsing, rins-ing, and the dipping of grapes and such fruits into boiling water for .two seconds, before being eaten, as these processes will do most to ' remove or destroy these death-inflicting and body-crippling germs, i Should this disease develop in this area, it is felt that the county i is very fortunate in having these i three volunteer workers who will i assist the local physicians in caring car-ing for the patients. Meantime, people are urged to observe the precautions being widely publicized, publi-cized, and to work against panic j should cases develop. |
