Show r-- ...- ' . Voice of the People 1 MY BROTHER'S KEEPER Editor Washington County News: I traveled some miles recently to attend a meeting of the higher priesthood of the Latter Day Saint church, and felt well paid for my time and travel. The first speaker, a man learned in the principles of the faith, and a fluent speaker. He choose for his subject '-'God's Holy Priesthood" and "I am my Brother's keeper," and expounded his text in a masterly mas-terly manner. The second speaker took for his subject that Divine principle, "Charity" making a splendid appeal ap-peal to the audience, exorting the brethern to givie of their substance sub-stance that the suffering among the people might be alleviated. There was a tense silence throughout through-out the large room which was filled fill-ed to its capacity. I was deeply impressed with the manner in which the subjects had been expounded, and my thoughts appeartaining to this life, past, present and future, passed through my troubled mind I say troubled troub-led mind, for truly it was troubled and deeply and seriously I pondered pon-dered over the weakness of the flesh. My thoughts reverted back to the days of the Saviour, and dealt on the instance of the rich young man wh ohad kept' all the commandments, com-mandments, and besought the Master to learn what else he could do to be saved. The Christ informed in-formed the young man he must sell all his earthly possessions and give to the poor, and follow Him. This was more than he could endure; en-dure; the material forces in his left transcended those of the spirt-ual. spirt-ual. He had lost the good fight. After meeting had adjourned, with life's problems still weighing heavily on my mind, I approached several of the brethern, among others high council-men, with the question: "What evidence have we, members of the only true church on earth, as we claim; we who are holding out to the world the Divine light of eternal life; we who are teaching the world the way to that cellestial Kingdom; what evidence, I ask, have we that we are living The Law? That- we are applying our lives and works, not in theory or pretense, but in very reality, to those Divine principles prin-ciples of "Charity" and "I am my Brother's keeper?" I am asking a question of every member of this church, from the highest to the lowest, separately and individually, and speccifically of those who are blessed with abundance of this world's goods, and hope they will not take offense, but ponder it deep down in their hearts: "Are we obeying the counsel coun-sel of the Christ that He administered admin-istered to the rich young man?" If I may be privileged without giving offense, I would ask a question ques-tion of every member of the church who are of mature age, from the highest to the lowest, and especially those who are in possession of abundance of this world's goods, and ask that they ponder it deep down in their hearts. "To. what extent are we obeying the counsel that the Master Mas-ter administered to the rich young man? If we are living that counsel, coun-sel, where is the evidence? If not, why not?
