Show Cougars Killed By ML Trumbull Boys After 2-Day Hunt I MT. TRUMBULL, Feb 24 The capture of a mountain lion by Charlie Dundon in one of his traps has caused plenty of excitement for the boys of Mt. Trumbull. The j big cat took the trap and made I tracks for the mountain. It was i trailed by George Iverson for two days before the trail was lost, j states the report sent in to the News. However, about two miles south of Trumbull he found a den, but since it was late in the evening he I came back to town. The next day in company with Loran Bundy he went back, and with his dog, frightened a couple of kittens out 1 of the den. They trailed one about a mile when it climbed a tree where they shot it. The other one 1 was trailed and treed by the dog. The two were only kittens but measured about six feet ifrom tip to tip. The boys then went back to the den and, from the snarls that greeted the dog, they knew 'there was another in the den. A 1 (Continued on page eight) COUGAR HUNT (Continued from first page) liro was built by the boys in the mouth of the den in an attempt to bring the lion out without success. suc-cess. At first the boys discussed the possibility of going home for dynamite dy-namite to blow the den up with, but Lincoln Bundy decided that perhaps there were only kittens in the den so took his flash light and 22 six shooter and crawled on hands and knees into the den. When lie (lashed the light up he reports that lie saw a big cougar staring at him from a shelf just above him. He states that he immediately im-mediately went into reverse and was mighty glad to get out of there. George Iverson then took his 30-30 and crawled into the den and when the big cat came at him he shot him through the jaw. Since the cave was so small he reports he had to come back out until the smoke cleared. As snarls continued contin-ued to come from the cat he took his flash light and 22 six shooter and again crawled into the cave and shot twice, but had to go back into the cave a third time with his 30-30 and finished the cat. When the lion was dragged out she proved to be a real one, measuring meas-uring 9 feet from tip to tip. Since this cat was not the one that got away with trap, Mr. Iver-scn Iver-scn has secured some more dogs and is now attempting to trail him down. Also one other that he states he knows is in the near vicinity. |
