Show LEO HARRIS DIES IN HOSPITAL THURSDAY ; LAST RITES ARE HELD Funeral services were held at Glendale Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Leo Harris, 40, son of Mrs. H. T. Atkin of this city who died at the local hospital at 5:30 last Thursday evening. Mr. Harris had been employed by the Whiting Construction company, com-pany, who are constructing a bridge just two miles above Glendale, Glen-dale, Utah. He had completed his work on Wednesday and was going off shift at noon when the second group of men came. He was asked with others to assist in resetting the pile driver and while they were doing this the cable broke and the driver fell, one end caught in a cottonwood tree and the other struck Leo on the head rendering him unconscious. uncon-scious. Wilford Meeks, who was working with him, received a broken shoulder, broken ribs and bad bruises but it was realized at once that Mr. Harris was seriously ser-iously injured and he was taken to Kanab and his sister, Mrs. Le-vanger Le-vanger of Glendale was notified. He was brought to the hospital here at 5:00 that evening where everything possible was done for him but he never regained consciousness. con-sciousness. Dr. Aiken of Kanab, Mr. Miller the foreman, Mr. Whiting, Whit-ing, the timekeeper and another man, who is in charge of the'work there, and Mrs. Levanger accompanied accom-panied Mr. Harris to St. George. Bishop Anderson conducted the funeral services which were well attended, many people having come from outside places. Four of the men he had been working with were pall bearers and Mr. Miller was one of the speakers. Mrs. Mamie Paxman, Mrs. Mae Pace and Dilworth Snow gave numbers at the services. Mr. Harris Har-ris was born and reared in Glendale Glen-dale but has been employed in the vicinity of St. George for several sev-eral years. Besides four children he is survived sur-vived by his mother, his sister. Mrs Charlotte LeVanger and one brother, Hazen H. Harris, who has been employed at Cokeville Wyoming but is now at the local hospital having undergone an operation op-eration there on Wednesday. All of these were present at the funeral fun-eral Mr. and Mrs. Atkin express their appreciation to their many friends for the kindness that ha.-been ha.-been shown them. |
