Talks Planned It is planned to have a talk on the geology of the section visited, by a representative, of the Grand Canyon national park. Other talks will be on the early history or Lee's Ferry up to 1S50, and sketches sketch-es of the Ferry's history subsequent subse-quent to that date, by church officials. of-ficials. The meetings are to be held on the evenings of October 11 and 12. Old - time community singing and music, dancing by twenty-five Indians through arrangements with Joseph Lee, Indian trader, cowboy songs by Arizona singers and Indian stories as told by William Will-iam Crosby, are slated also as features fea-tures of the program. Supt. M. R. Tillison of Grand Canyon National Park is making arrangements for tents and cots to house guests, and Buck Lowry is reserving his cabins and rooms at the bridge for church and state officials. It is about seven miles from the bridge to the ferry, and assurance has been made by the Coconino county road supervisor that the road will be in good shape for the occasion. Wood is to be provided for each camp, with visitors camping together to-gether in family groups. According to C. W. Love, Jr., vice-president of the club, many pioneer families of both Utah and Arizona say that they expect to attend the celebration honoring honor-ing their ancestors and prepare to camp in groups the same as was done fifty years or more ago. It is the first time that any honor has been paid this particular group of L. D. S. church members. Aside from honoring the pioneers, pion-eers, one of the main purposes of the celebration says Mr. Love, will be to obtain an accurate and com-plete com-plete history of the country. To do this the club is requesting the assistance of all organizations, such as the sons and daughters of Utah pioneers, and individuals. who have valuable information, to forward it to the committee or office of the Associated Civic clubs at Richfield for compiling. The committee is eager to obtain the names of all persons in any way connected with the history o-f the territory. It is hoped that a com plete list of these L. D. S. groups can be obtained. |
