"The first precaution is to see that Ihe hand brake is set. The clutch should then be thrown out. This saves wear on the battery and is also a safely measure. The starter then should be turned over with the ignition igni-tion oft' to gel a supply of gas in the chambers. The cautious motorist, of course, will have his gears in neutral. His next move will be to shift to low or to reverse, as the case may bo. and release the hand brake and apply the power gently. "In backing out of the garage the sounding of the horn is net sufficient. The driver should make a practice of seeing that no one is standing or walking near the rear of his car. The driver who observes such precautions will never become Involved in a starting start-ing accident |
