Show NEW CO. OFFICERS TAKE OVER OFFICES Monday morning the oath of office to the incoming county officers was administered by Chairman of the board of county commissioners Henry T. Atkin. Those taking the oath were James Judd, four-year term commissioner, F. J. Bowler, two-year term commissioner, John T. Woodbury, Wood-bury, county clerk and treasurer, William Brooks, county assessor and sheriff, Ellen Carter, county recorder, record-er, LeRoy H. Cox, county attorney and W. W. Cannon, county surveyor. Part of the business transacted by the old board before handing over to their successors follows: Hon. L. N. Marsden, senator elect, and Chas. B. Petty, representative elect, met with the commissioners and discussed needed legislation. The commissioners took action to designate road from Hurricane to, Washington, via Purgatory flat, to a junction with the Arrowhead trail as a state highway; that the road from Hurricane to the Arizona state line via the Big Plain be taken from the list of state highways and become a county highway. Edward R. Frei of Santa Clara appeared ap-peared before the board and requested request-ed that the commission provide a county agent. A nefition of citizens, the advisorv board of the Dixie National forest, requested the commission to open a good public highway above Gunlock, the road having been fenced up by Henry Hunt; matter referred to incoming in-coming commissioners. In behalf of Nephi M. Savage, the outgoing county treasurer, who has served in this capacity for 28 years, William Brooks requested the board to make an allowance to him in re cognition of his faithful and efficient services during that time. On motion mo-tion of Com. William Lund an appropriation ap-propriation of $25 was made, also an allowance of $7 per month until further notice. The commissioners also made Mr. Savage a present of the office chair he had been using. Luncheon at Cafe At one o'clock the incoming and outgoing county officers met and had luncheon together at the St. George Cafe, Senator elect Marsden and Representative Rep-resentative elect Petty being special guests. Of the incoming officers Mr. Bowler has not held county office before. be-fore. He is regarded as an active and diligent man and will doubtless make a good commissioner. Mr. Judd has been serving on the board the past two years and is an efficient officer who keeps a sharp eye on the county's business. Mr. Woodbury is too well known to need mention here, having served the county and city during many years in various offices to the entire satisfaction of the citizens. citi-zens. Mr. Brooks is the retiring county clerk and has made a splendid record in that office. Miss Carter is the present incumbent of the recorder's re-corder's office and that she has given entire satisfaction is proven by her re-election. Mr. Cox and Mr. Cannon Can-non succeed themselves in office and are officers in whom the people have confidence. Those retired from office are Wil liam Lund, who made an excellent record as county commissioner, N. M. Savage whose excellent service during dur-ing many years has been highly praised prais-ed by state officials and others, one state auditor stating that Mr. Savage accounts were the best kept of any in the state; he lias been very conscientious conscien-tious in his office work and leaves with the good will of his fellow officers-. Sheriff Wilford Goff has made a remarkably fine record as an officer, offic-er, being energetic and diligent jn the exercise of duty always, at the same time being K-iiik-niaii- am humane; he e,-,veS with the re: pert and best wishes of v. very large number num-ber of friends. |
