Show SHOCKS AGAIN SHAKE TOWNS . INCURRING QUAKES ROUSE CAL-EXICO CAL-EXICO AND MEXICALI; TWO I BUILDINGS RAZED Jlack Butte, a Volcano 40 miles South of the Border was Active, Spout- ing Smoke and Vapor t-alexico, Cal. Recurrant temblors again shook the twin cities of Cal-exico, Cal-exico, Cal., and Mexiculi, Mexico, and lire razed two buildings. A number num-ber of jolts were felt throughout the night, several of them were severe, sending loose bricks flying into the streets and widening already existing cracks in buildings. The shocks, however, did not add materially to previous estimates of damage whioh place the property loss in the two border towns at approximately approxi-mately one million dollars. The fire, which started in Mcxicali a few minutes of a severe shocks, burned two large two- story buildings io the ground. The exact cause of the fire was undetermined, but because it broke out so quickly after an earth shock, fire department officials believed believ-ed the quake responsible. The burned buildings haused a general gen-eral and liquor store and the famous Paris cafe, in the Chinese section of Mexicali. The Calexico fire department depart-ment crossed the line to aid the Mexicali Mex-icali department, but was unable to save the doomed structure, both de-parmens de-parmens centering their efforts on preventing pre-venting the flames from spreading. |
