However, Kent Cooper of Malta, Idaho, foiled Munroe's first olace hopes as he conquered Hangem' High, Saturday, for a score of 93, which earned him the top prize in the saddle bronc event. Cooper pocketed first place in the saddle bronc event and won $761.66. "Hangem' High was just a real nice horse. I was lucky enough to ride him. The horse was strong, but that is the type of horse you want to draw. He's the kind of horse that might buck you off one trip and not the next time. He is the type of horse you win money on. Bud Kerby, stock contractor of the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo, said that my ride of 93 is the second or third highest saddle bronc score ever. The record is 95. Hangem' High just stood there good turned out and bucked hard two or three times. He was a little hard to ride, but toward the end I was in rhythm with him. Lonnie Hall, Snearfish, South Dakota and Bruce Ford, Kersey, Colo., split first and second place in the bareback bronc riding at 80. Each bronc rider won $716.77. Rollie Wilson, Alamo, Calif., placed third at 79 and nabbed $513.91. Dave Church, Sonoma, Calif.; Lewis Fields, Peoa, Utah, and Sandy Kirby, Greenville, Texas, split fourth and fifth places with rides of 77. Each rider won $207.37. Guy Fowler, Fallon, Nev., Steve Elliot, Hooper, Utah, and Glen Ford, Evans, Colo., split sixth place at 76. Each rider won $45.09. Green River, Wyoming's Paul Hughes dropped his steer in 4.8 seconds for first place in the steer wrestling event. Hughes won $956.4!!. Barney Carnegy, Helena, Mont., netted second place at 6.8 and won $717.30. Wes Scolari, San Diego, Calif., nabbed third place at 13.3 and won $478.24. Lawson Hadlock, Ogden, placed fourth at 13.4 and won $239.12. Toots Boyd of Hemet, Calif., collected first place in the bull riding with a score of 88. Boyd won $750.28. Dave Osborne, Santa Maria, Calif., finished one point behind Boyd at 87 and nabbed secrfnd place. Osborne won $620.93. Justin Deal Hill of Looviers, Colo., placed third at 82 and won $491.57. Vcrn Smith, Burkburnett, Texas, and Kelly Wahlen, Clearfield! split fourth and fifth place at 81. Each rider won $297.53. Tom Stuart, Prcscott, Ariz., nabbed sixth place at 78 and won $129.36. Bud Bedke, Oakley, Idaho, roped bis calf in 12.1 seconds for first place in the calf roping event. Bedke won $ll'l't 76 Bob Munroe of Twin Fulls, Idaho' placed second at 14.4 and won $670.32! Joe Sagers of Burlcy, Idaho, garnered third place at 14.8 and won $446.88. Imont Miller. Fielding. Utah, placed fourth at 16.1 and won $223.44. Dave Motes, Chowchilla, Calif., and Dennis Watkins, Fresno, placed first in the team roping with a time of 5.6. Each roper won $753.13. Kent Winterton, Gilbert, Ariz., and Don Kimble! Douglas, Ariz., placed second at 5.8 and won $623.28 each. Dennis Motes, Mesa, Ariz., and Bucky Bradford, Las Vegas! Nov., captured third place at 6.2 and won $493.43 each. Vcrnal's Jay Thomas and Roosevelt's Wane Workman collected fourth place honors with a time of 7.3. Both ropers won $363.58. George Richards, Humbolt, Ariz., and Matt Silveira, Nipoma, Calif., placed fifth nt 7.7 and won $233.73 each. Cody Woodson, Prcscott, Ariz., and Harry Rose, Jr., Lemoore, Calif., captured sixth place at 7.9 and won $129.85. The Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo had outstanding crowds each night of the rodeo on Thursday. Friday and Saturday. Many people were forced to stand as the stands were packed with rodeo fans, Saturday night. |
