Show Boeird to view requests to close VJEK! campus Due to problems with junior high students leaving campus, the Uintah School Board will consider requests to close campus at Vernal Junior High at their next meeting, July 10. A parent group, Citizens for Better Education, and Dr. John Childs, principal, have requested that the junior high's campus be closed. "As a result of working with a parent discipline committee," says Dr. Childs, "I would like to recommend that Vernal Junior High campus be closed for the 1980-81 school year." Dr. Childs bases his decision on parent input and desires to identify the school boundary as a place to be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to give students a feeling of structure and to meet community com-munity ideals. Jan Nelson who has transferred to the junior high as vice principal, comes from a closed campus school in Colorado and agrees with Dr. Child's decision. The Citizens for Better Education have been meeting with Dr. Childs and have voiced their support ot a closed campus at the junior high school. Dr. childs has also requested the board to help enforce the closed campus by providing a fence along the back of the junior high and down the west end of the property. "I feel very confident about this proposal and trust the students will stay on campus," Dr. Child concludes. Also scheduled for this week's meeting is tne presentation of superintendent salaries in the state in preparation of setting Superintendent Wayne Reid's salary for the 1980-81 year. The board will also discuss the Union contract meeting, building rental policy and an accounting of special funds. |
