Show J. McKnights visit Jack London's Square The J. Art McKnights recently returned from a three week vacation. Their vacation was an historical as well as entertaining one.- The McKnights visited their daughter in Danville, Calif!, and spent some time in the Bay Area. While sailing, they visited "Jack London's Square" where the cabin is located where he wrote most of his books. In the same area was a building built in 1863 from an old whaling ship. It had blackened ceilings from years of smoke and is known as Heinolds, with a sign stating it as Jack London's Rendezvous. The place was operated by two men who have done so for 40 years. From there the McKnights went to Lake Tahoe where they enjoyed a live performance by Englebert Hum-perdinck Hum-perdinck at the Sahara Tahoe. The Saraha was filled to capacity and a member of the audience was Glen Campbell. The McKnights spent a week there and then motored to Virginia City, Nev. The McKnights reported that Virginia City was a step back to the 19th century. Unchanged buildings of ancient an-cient saloons and dance halls remain along with the old newspaper building where Mark Twain edited the first newspaper. |
