Show Needles Section Planning For Influx of Tourists Officials of Canyonlands National Park and Dick Smith, who will be manager in residence at the Canyon-lands Canyon-lands Resort in the Needles section of Canyonlands National Na-tional Park, conducted an on-site interpretive planning meeting on Tuesday. The men were to tour the area around Cave Springs Environmental Study Area as well as the Squaw Flat campground with an eye to establishing a guided tour through the study area and a campfire circle in the camping area. These preparations pre-parations are being done with the expected influx of tourists into the Needles sector sec-tor in mind, according to Chief Naturalist Bill Taylor. It is hoped, stated Taylor, that with cooperative planning plan-ning between the National Park Service and the con-sessionier con-sessionier that an effective program for showing the tourist the Needles area can be found. Through this coordination co-ordination of efforts, it is hoped that there will be less overlap in programs so that a broader knowledge of the area can be given the visitor. vis-itor. In the past, there has been enough of this work wi'h others, stated Taylor and "I feel that this type of program will give us bo:h a chance to learn from each other." |
