Show Local Airport in Line For Funds, Boyden Says The Canyonlands Airport was reported to be in line for an allocation of $l,OO0,2i:0 according to an announcement announce-ment made by Welby Boy-den, Boy-den, chairman of the Grand (County Airport Committee Tuesday. Boyden announced to Moab Mo-ab Chamber of Commerce members that the Utah Di vision of Aeronautics had placed the Canyonlands Mu r.icipal Airport as second on its list of priorities. The rebuilding would be for a 7f'1;) by 131 foot runway, run-way, according to the announcement an-nouncement from the State vernatrties Division office. It would have a 43,000 pound capacity. An immediate problem connected with the proposed Hatch Point location for the regional a;rport is that it lies in the d:(j) zone for missile mis-sile components fired from, the Green River Missile Base. Boyden said he received re-ceived a call this week from an official of White Sands fiU'ssilc Range expressing concern over the proposal. The Chamber meeting for next week will take place in the evening ra'hcr than at I'oon, specifically regarding the regional airport. Guest speaker for that meeting will be Four Corners Commission Com-mission executive, Allan Howe. A discussion concerning the problem of shopping out f-f town was culminated with a suggestion that the community put pressure on the Utah Legislature to repeal re-peal the six per cent law so that Utah merchants could place Drices competitive to neighboring states on their goods. |
