Show "Drug Abuse Workshop Planned Here OMr. Mike McKivett, District Dis-trict Attorney for Denver, "d Dr. J. Thomas Unger-leider Unger-leider of the University of California at Los Angeles, w'ill lead the discussions on drug abuse during the firsr two sessions of the Workshop Work-shop on Drugs to be con- ducted at Moab on Feb. 11, 12. 13 and 14. The workshop Ss sponsored jointly by he Grand County Board of Education and the Depart-mtnt Depart-mtnt of Continuing Education Educa-tion of the University of Utah. Previous to Mr. McKiv-r'lt's McKiv-r'lt's discussion, registration for the workshop will begin J p.m. in the Junior High School gymnasium. Mr. McKivett, Mc-Kivett, whose position as pt-nver's District Attorney has given him a great deal of contact with the drug problem, will speak on the General aspects of drug abuse. Following his discussion, discus-sion, a movie entitled "The People Next Door" will be presented. The program on Thursday is scheduled to begin at 6:3') p.m. The health aspects, both physical and mental, of hallucinagenic drugs will be discussed by Dr. Ungcr-llcider Ungcr-llcider who is recognized as one of the mos tknowledge-able tknowledge-able authorities in the country coun-try on hallucinogenic drugs which include LSD and marijuana. ma-rijuana. Sudjian, also well known as an authority on drugs, will be the principal princi-pal speaker during the Friday Fri-day evening session begin- ning at 6:39 p.m. Mr. Sudjian Sud-jian is head of the Fresno, pal if., City School Drug Abuse Center. Following his discussion, group sections will again be formed. The workshop on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 8:3f) a.m. Mrs. Lucy Beth Ramp-ton, Ramp-ton, wife of Governor Calvin Cal-vin L. Rampton, will be a principal speaker during this session. ; Others will include Dr. .Robert Leake, State Specialist Special-ist for the Utah State Department De-partment of Public Instruction; Instruc-tion; Mr. Sudjian; Dr. C. 'Ness, Director of the Ileal th Sciences Department at the 'University of Utah; Mr. Bruce Woolcy, Executive Secretary for the Governor's Gover-nor's Committee on Drug 'Abuse. An Effective Effort This workshop on drug 'abuse is recognized as one of the most effective cflorts in the country aimed at icurbing the drug problem, it was stated Tuesday by C. Robert Sundwall, Superintendent Superin-tendent of Schools. Utah is 'ahead of most states in 'making efforts toward curbing curb-ing the drug problem, pri-marily pri-marily through the Governor's Gover-nor's Committee on Drug 'Abuse. Through these efforts, ef-forts, a great deal of know-Hedge know-Hedge has been obtained .concerning drugs and the p rt to Hem. This knowledge will be presented during tne 'Moab workshop.
