Show STATE WRESTLING By Terry Hunt Three Grand County High School students were in Salt Lake last Thursday, Friday and Saturday to participate in the Utah State 2A wrestling tournament. The three students stu-dents were Mike Roedel, a freshman at 132 pounds, Billy Roedel, a junior at 138 pounds, and Charles Winder, a junior at 145. The first round started Friday morning at the University Univer-sity of Utah. The only win for the Devils in that round came from Billy Roedel winning by a fall. In the next round wins came from Billy and Charles and Mike Roedel was eliminated from state competition. Later Billy Roedel and Charles both lost, dropping Bill in the consolation bracket and putting put-ting Charles out of the tournament in a tie for fifth place. Billy won his 4th match to put him in a wrestle-off for 3rd and 4th against Wes Hicks of San Juan. Earlier Billy and Wes wrestled off for first place in region with Billy winning 6-3, but this time it was Wes Hicks' turn winning it by a decision 1-0 over Billy, giving Billy the 4th place medal. In the overall standings the defending state champions, the Delta Rabbits, won it again! The Devils did not place in the overall scoring. |
