Park ' Superintendent Ronald R. : siaer announced implemen-I implemen-I tition of stepped-up water ' (observation practices for Me-i Me-i a Verde National Park. ' Switrer pointed out that rile the park plans to provide reitor services this summer a Water Use Contingency Plan has recently been developed. With below normal water supply in the area, reduced use of water is being accomplished accomp-lished through numerous mechanical me-chanical adjustments and replacements re-placements of more water- etlicient equipment in park facilities. Some examples are converting all faucets to spring-loaded valves, adjusting adjust-ing toilet flush valves for maximum efficiency and immediate im-mediate reporting of leaks in the water system. Wherever water is used in the park a small sign will remind the user of the need for conservation, including a sign near the park entrance. Both the park and the park concessioner are encouraging personnel to seek new ways for reducing the use of water. Visitor contacts including interpretive in-terpretive programs will be aimed at increasing visitor awareness of the urgent need for water conservation. The park hopes to exceed the Governor's challenge to the people of Colorado to . reduce their water consumption consump-tion by 10. |
