Show Statewide Fire Season Will Begin May 1st Utah Suite Forestry and Fire Control announces the start of the statewide fire season. It will start at 12:00 a.m. on May 1. Stale Forester, Paul Sjob-lom, Sjob-lom, emphasizes that burning permits will be required when doing any open burning. A burning permit can be obtained obtain-ed from the County Fire Warden, County Fire Department, Depart-ment, or County Sheriff. Any permit that is issued must comply with the State Health Department Clearing Index. When this index is below 500, no burning is allowed. Above 500, smoke dispersal is sufficient suffi-cient enough to allow burning. Because of the extremely dry weather conditions, it has become necessary to begin the fire season earlier than in past years. As conditions warrant throughout the fire season, additional regulations may have to be implemented. Future announcements will be made as to fire conditions throughout the state, as the summer progresses, Mr. Sjob- lom stated. We must all strive to hold the level of man caused fires to a minimum, and save our range and forest lands from fire destruction. Due to the extremely dry weather conditions of the past few months, State Forestry personnel have announced the need to begin the fire season on May 1, 1977. Vegetation conditions are sufficiently dry for restrictions to be placed on open burning. No open burning burn-ing will be allowed unless a burning permit is obtained. Burning permits can be obtained from your County Fire Warden, County Fire Deparment, or County Sheriff. Citizens are urged to abide by the burning permit policy in order to prevent the occurrence occur-rence of damaging wildfires. The fire season will remain in effect until late fall. Should weather conditions become extremely dry during the fire season, additional precautions might need to be announced to reduce man-caused fire occurrence. |
