Show rjenjiyer 1 SiO A Letter from Pearl, lona and Barbara... By Pearl Baker Pre-Launch Barbecue... Ray Corliss, Frank Bogert of Ray Corliss Rides and Ron Smith of Canyonlands Expeditions Expedi-tions hosted 40 guests of their Cabalgata Rio Verde at the State Park Sunday afternoon and evening. Beef barbecued in the ground, cowboy style, was served up by Jo.e Baker and Ted Ekker manned the dutch ovens for cowboy potatoes. Together with salads put togethers by lona and the girls, Tammy and Leslie, the meal was pronounced pronounc-ed superb by one and all. Ted kept his two-gallon coffee pot going, and then spent the evening singing and reciting oldies to the great delight of the crowd. . This was a most interesting group of people to "ride the river." They were mostly ranchers and outdoors people from California and Nevada and had engaged in trail rides all over the world, including one memorable horseback ride in Ireland. They started out with the big ride in Santa Barbara, graduated to Mexican trail rides, then branched out wherever there was a beautiful terrain particularly enjoyable for horseback trips. This year they decided to change pace a bit, and ride Ron Smith's 37 foot, side pontooned, rubber ; rafts. The group shoved off Mon- : day morning for a seven day trip on the Green River and Cataract Canyon. Boatmen for r" the three big rigs are Ron Smith, Marc Smith, who spent several months last year on the Omo River in Africa as head boatman, and Art Gallison of Kanab. Fishing... Mr. and Mrs. John Folsom took their trailer and went fishing over on Fish Lake Mountain this week. They were gone several days, and found the fishing pretty good and the resting and relaxing wonderful. Short Career... There is just no way I can get that project off the ground of making evening talks at the Ovemighter. I have had the most willing and enthusiastic help from the Maughans who run the motel and cafe, but with one thing and another, there just is no way I can get the job done. The weather has been impossible, I have had trouble getting help, I had the flu, and what with the other obligations I already am carrying, forget it! It didn't look all that promising, anyway, and so I am going to bow out of the picture. Home From Hospital... Mrs. Budge Wilcox and the Jim McPhersons drove to Price Monday to bring Budge Wilcox home from the hospital. He was driving about the mine in Horse Canyon when he was seized with severe chest pains and ran off the road. He suffered injuries in the wreck, and the horse in the horsetrailer he was pulling was so badly injured it had to be destroyed. After about a week in the hospital at Price, Budge is still pretty well under the weather, and will lay around the water hole for quite a spell. To Fruita... Mrs. Warren Thompson went to Fruita for a medical checkup on Monday. Washington Visitors... Mrs. Douglas Dumas and children from Green Acres, Washington, spent the weekend week-end visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Dumas, Douglas' parents. par-ents. Everyone journeyed to Moab Sunday where they enjoyed spending the day with the Bill Luhrs, Mr. and Mrs. Dumas' daughter, Carolee. The day was topped off with everyone enjoying home made .ice cream and cookies. Those in attendance were Jean and Rollie Thompson, Harmond and Norma Dean Weber and Cody, Wayne and Dorothy Growcock, Arva Sampson and children and Grandma and Grandpa Dumas, all of Green River.
