Show Utah Drilling Rig Activity Increases Active oil and gas drilling rigs at work in Utah increased to 28 this week from the past week of 23, notes Carlton Stowe, Utah Goelogical and Mineral Survey specialist. The figure, still down from a year ago of 41 active rigs, reflects a renewed interest in prospective prospect-ive drilling sites as well as increased accessibility into some of the more remote areas of Utah. Total wells completed in the State to date number an even 100. This time last year, operators had completed 76 wells. Two significant exploratory wells have had locations selected and approved by the Division of Oil & Gas this week. W.A. Moncrief, Casper, will drill the No. 14-1 Marsing in section 14, section 5s, range 6w, in southern Duchesne County. Although the projected project-ed total depth is held confidential by the operator, the well is some 10 miles south of deep Wasatch formation production in the Cedar Rim area just west of Starvation Reservoir. American Quasar Petroleum announced location earlier for their deep ...17,300 foot test... the No. 3-2 UPRR in the Pineview area. Reports now say that it will go deeper if conditions at the 17,300 foot level are favorable. Another well, also in the Cedar Rim vicinity, will be drilled by the Diamond Shamrock Corporation Corpora-tion of Amarillo. Their well, on the northwestern edge of the field is scheduled to at least 11,225 feet in the .Wasatch formation. Utah based oil companies are busy in the State at present. Skyline Oil Company is drilling below 2,000 feet at their No. 2 Gulf Energy-Burr Desert wildcat well in Wayne County. It is about 15 miles southeast of Hanksville. Pease Drilling of Grand Junction, is contractor for Skyline, will drill the well to about 2,400 feet for possible tests. In Grand County, J. Reed Hoggan, Logan, is moving in rotary rig to drill his No. 1 Federal to about 5,200 feet. This wildcat well is four miles south and west of Crescent Junction. The Crescent Junction field produced pro-duced a small amount of oil. There is oil production at the Salt Wash field about 10 miles to the southwest. Other Utah operators presently working on oil drilling in the State includes the C.C. Company of Salt Lake City which is drilling the No. 11-1 Federal, a schedule 1,200 foot test of the Morrison formation in the Cisco area. The company has also scheduled the No. 5-2 Adak-Government well in the vicinity. The Zion Crude Oil Company has four well locations loca-tions to be drilled to depths of about 900 feet in the Virgin field, Washington County. Zion Crude Oil is based in Hurricane, Utah. |
