Good Water Year Forecast Most of the Bureau of Reclamation reservoirs in the Western States will have normal to above normal water supplies for summer irrigation and production of hydroelectric hydroelec-tric power, Commissioner Gilbert Gil-bert G. Stamm reported today. Stamm said the summer water supply forecast for Reclamation projects in the 17 Western States is "generally excellent," although below normal precipitation in local areas may result in spot shortages in some parts of New Mexico. Exceptionally cold and wet spring weather in the mountains moun-tains of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming has raised the anticipated runoff from the Colorado River watershed to 134 per cent of the long-time average. Several of the reservoirs reser-voirs will fill, while almost all will receive enough inflow to insure adequate supplies of water this year. "The irrigation water supply sup-ply for major agricultural areas in the Colorado River Basin ranges from normal to above normal for the summer growing grow-ing season," Stamm said. "There should also be above normal water for power production at major hydroelectric hydro-electric facilities. |
