Show Planned Parenthood Group Held Meeting Mike Chulada, executive director of Planned Parenthood Parent-hood Association of Utah and Mrs. Ellie Fiegel, president of the State Board were in Moab to visit the Moab office and attend the County Council meeting held that night. Mr. Chulada is a newcomer to the state and assumed the directorship in February of this year. Mrs. Fiegel is also new in her position. She replaced Dr. Morris D. Klass as president of the Board. Mr. Chulada is very enthusiastic enthu-siastic about the programs progress in Utah and the cooperation of the state and local boards. His main object is to make services and facilities more readily available avail-able to those who need them and he stressed to the Moab Council the importance of local support. He also explained the government's role and position posi-tion on birth control and related problems. Planned Parenthood is partly part-ly supported by a grant from the Federal government and by private donations and other fund raising projects. The funds are used in expansion of the program, advertising and for local needs such as training personnel and education of the public. Mrs. Fiegel told the council to. strengthen their board and make use of volunteer workers. work-ers. Volunteer service is an important aspect of Planned Parenthood as it gives more people the opportunity to help further goals and services and puts the local citizens in a position to know just how the program is developing. Grand County has a council of twelve members and volunteers many hours of service. Mr. Chulada said in closing, he foresees no significant changes in methods of contra- ception for at least ten years. Government funds for research re-search have been halted and the pharmaceutical companies are pretty well staying with what they presently have, with some modifications. However governments in Japan and some European countries are working towards more efficient effi-cient and easier methods. Also some chemical companies are working on sterilants which may prove an effective contraceptive. |
