Show Four to One Vofe Says No On Nursing Home Issue Grand County residents soundly defeated a proposal pro-posal to establish a county-owned nursing home during a special bond election held Tuesday. Final vote tally showed 268 persons in favor of the proposal and 862 against. Voter turnout was light with only 32 per cent of the 3,496 registered voters in the county going to the polls. In Moab District 1, the tally was 66 in favor, 144 against. Voting in District 2 showed 52 in favor, 174 against. District Dis-trict 3 registered 37 for, 195 against. In District 4 there were 43 voters who favored construction of the facility and 193 voiced their opposition. The trend continued in District 5, where 45 voters vot-ers were in favor and 193 against. Going against the general gen-eral trend in the county were the area's two smallest districts. In Thompson, the vote was 18 in favor, 2againstand Elgin voters cast 7 ballots bal-lots for the proposal and 5 against. The facility proposed was to have cost $950,-000, $950,-000, with repayment of the bonds to have been made partially by revenue reve-nue sharing monies and partially by a one mill increase in taxes. Opponents Op-ponents of the measure stressed the point that the present hospital facility fa-cility was not being used to its full capacity and that such a facility was not needed at this time. Those in favor of the proposal pointed out that no nursing home beds were available within a 200-mile radius of Moab and that building costs -were climbing rapidly. They stated that present hospital facilities were inadequate to house nursing nur-sing home patients. |
