Williams near1 Point-of-the. Mountain; : . . , '' Kevin L. Burr, the .son of Mr. and 'Mrs.. Thomas ..Burr of Green River, was selected by local high school "officials to attend the Academy. The Utah National Guard Freedom Academy was organized or-ganized in 1961 under the auspices au-spices of the Freedom- Foun- dation, Inc:, according to Maj. Gen. Maurice- L. Wats, Utah National Guard Adjutant Adju-tant General. The Freedom Foundation is supported primarily pri-marily by members of the Honorary Colonels' Corps of Utah and the Utah, National Guard Association. Maj. Jerry M. Norton, project pro-ject officer for the Freedom Academy said the objective of the Freedom Academy is to provide selected, high school students with an orientation or-ientation in Americanism and ideologies which pose a challenge to America's con-tinued con-tinued freedom.- A balanced program of academic ac-ademic subjects, practical exercises, ex-ercises, field trips and spiritual spir-itual guidance provided during dur-ing the course with mstruc-tors mstruc-tors coming from the Utah National Guard and leaders of the government, business, educational and industrial communities. . . The Freedom Academy is also supported financially by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Mattie Wattis Harris foundation. |
