Show same mistakes as before . . . ' It's easy for state governments to fall into the same unfortunate mistake patterns they have fallen into in I the past, and this seems to be the case with current talk ; surrounding the creation of a special "Authority" to take I over the work of building a major state park along the i Jordan River in Salt Lake County. ' The responsibility of the Authority will be to acquire ground, build and maintain a park that will be funded j by the State of Utah. It may seem a little silly, but that i is exactly what the State Division of Parks and R.ecre-; R.ecre-; ation was created for, and that agency is already staffed, ; off iced and funded. 1 . ! The last time this silliness overcame the State, It was to create the Great Salt Lake Authority. And it took years and reams of legislation (plus much money spent ! for duplicated services) to get the responsibility for parks on the Great Salt Lake back where it belongs under j the State Park Commission. I Fine. Go ahead and build a park along the Jordan. ' It would be an asset, if only from the standpoint of clean- ' ing up a current cesspool. But give the taxpayers a break, fellows. Give the State Division of Parks the authority and then give them some funds to do the job with. Creating another agency will just create more unnecessary jobs in an already top-heavy state government govern-ment administration. |
