Schocker was awarded the bid for the CHALLENGE Thorne Consrutction Company Com-pany ef Springville Wednesday Wednes-day informed Grand County Commissioners that they were filing a challenge to the validity of a bid of Schocker Ccnstmction Company for reconstruction re-construction work at Canyon-lands Canyon-lands Airport. Reason listed lor the protest was a discrep-ency discrep-ency in figures between a unit price and extended price cn one item. A meeting to discuss the challenge has been set for Friday. work in a special bid opening open-ing last week. Low among five bidders, the Schocker Const, bid was $309,814, about 10 percent below the engineer's engine-er's estimate. A second special meeting concerning the work at the airport was held late last week with Darwin Selum of the FA A and Robert Walker of the State Aeronautics. The Commissioners at the meeting meet-ing made a resolution to accept ac-cept funds totaling $314,504 from the Airport and Airway Development Act and Four Corners Regional Commission. Commis-sion. .This money will be used us-ed for actual reconstruction work and the remaining amount, am-ount, along with an expected $75,000 in State monies, will be used for fencing and other projects needed at the airport. air-port. The project will include application ap-plication of a leveling course 4 inches thick to be applied to the full width and length of the runway, reshaping of shculde-rs and provide for more adequate drainage. This portion will take place during dur-ing the fall construction. Next spring,- the remainder of the project will be completed com-pleted including an application applica-tion of 2 inches of finishing course of bituminous surface. sur-face. A total of 90 days, including in-cluding both Fall and Spring work, is allowed for the project. |
