Grid Squad Undefeated and averaging averag-ing fifty points per game, the Running Reds enter this, their fourth week of competition. com-petition. Having downed Wasatch Wa-satch Academy, Emery and Green River, the Moab grid-dors grid-dors are preparing for a bout with the Cortez Panthers Pan-thers this Friday in Cortez. Heading the team as both co-captain and starting quarterback, quar-terback, is senior, Jeff Cowan. Cow-an. Jeff, at 150 pounds, also quarter-backed for the club last year and lettered in three sports: football, basketball, and track. Region champ in the mile and member of the mile relay team that placed first at state last spring, Jeff is awaiting the cinder season. Region champ in both the 440 and the hundred yard dash, Steve Robinson carried car-ried the ball for a 80-yard touchdown during last week's game. Playing as halfback and defensive back, Steve, a senior this year, is a two-year two-year letter-man in track and also received a football letter last year. Active in student 'government as well, Steve served as Studentbody vice president during his junior year. Robert Grilts, also a senior, sen-ior, plays for the varsity as a halfback and linebacker. Gritts participates in track and has lettered in both basketball and football. Center and defensive linebacker, line-backer, Dave Lomenick tips the scales at 155 pounds. A lctterman in wrestling as well as football, Dave, a senior, sen-ior, is also participating in his last year of Red Devil athletics. Student body president, Jim Kcogh is a starting guard and defensive linebacker lineback-er on the varsity squad this year. Jim is also a two year letterman in wrestling and a valuable member of the track team. Having participated for three years in the sport, Dennis Bailey is co-captam of the football team this year. He plays as guard on the offensive lineup and as defensive linebacker. Six-foot, five inch, 195-pound 195-pound tackle, Sam Scharf poses a definite threat to the opposition. A senior this year, Sam has lettered in both football and basketball. Runt of the litter, Chuck Zimmerman, at 205 pounds. is a powerhouse tackle. A member of the Letterman's Club, Chuck also participates participat-es in basketball and track. Jim Dickerson, the remaining re-maining senior on the starling starl-ing lineup, plays end at 150 pounds. Jim too, is a two-sport two-sport letterman for his efforts ef-forts in track and football. Three juniors and one sophomore so-phomore make up the rest of the Red Devil line. David Adkison, the only starting sophomore, has already al-ready proved a valuable asset as-set to the unit and shows promise of being even more so in the future. David, at 145 pounds, plans on participation partici-pation in both basketball and track as well this year. Track letterman, region champ and 2nd place state winner in pole vaulting, Paul Cox is at the end position. At 155 pounds, and a junior this year, Paul will be playing play-ing basketball as well. Defensive back and quar-Ibaek quar-Ibaek , junior Kim Neal weighs in at 145 pounds. Kim also played basketball during dur-ing his sophomore year and plans to do so again this year. Warren Domenick, also a junior this year plays as both offensive center and point, man on defense. A powerful build, determin..-lion determin..-lion and a good sense of timing, tim-ing, all qualities possessed by Warren are essential to his position. All equally important and all equally determined, thes-are thes-are Ihe players who have set their sighis on the state berth, and if that goal is reached, these are the players play-ers who will have earned it. |
