Show fit It's Your Wildlife I 1 V Or rl irS By Garth Carter Conservation Officer J ' It's over, the first weekend of the eleven day deer hunt is over. Hunting was great but the success seemed to be low. Over the first weekend the percentage of success was about fifteen percent with some of the veteran camps taking a much larger percentage. percen-tage. The deer ranged from timberline to the lower oak brush. There were no trophy deer taken from herd unit 30A to my knowledge. Most deer taken were in the year and a half to two and half age group. To better manage the deer herd one front incisor tooth was taken from each deer I checked. These teeth will be cut in half then stained with a special dye. After staining, the annual dentine rings will appear, then the ages of the animals can be calculated like those rings of a tree. ; ...gkc Local members of the Moab Sportsman Club visited hunting hunt-ing camps and approached hunters to educate the hunters of the sportsmen's points of view. There were no violent actions taken towards either anti-hunter groups or the hunter groups. gkc Some of local hunters that bagged deer were Richard Whitehead, Melvin Dalton, Eric Holyoak, W. C. Jones, and David Arehart. gkc For venison lovers my wife says try Venison Swiss Steak. Take four Vi pound steaks and rub the following mixed ingredients into the meat, Vi cup flour, 1 teaspoon garlic salt, one eighth teaspoon paprika, and one eighth teaspoon freshly ground black pepper. Heat 3 tablespoons cooking oil over medium heat in a heavy frypan and brown the steaks, along with 'A cup minced onion. Add 1 can of concentrated mushroom soup and 1 can of water and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer an hour. Cook Vi pound small-size egg noodles according to the directions on the package. Place noodles on serving platter then place steaks over. Add Vi pound of sliced fresh mushrooms to the liquid remaining in the frypan and simmer until tender. Stir in a cup of sour cream. Add mushrooms to steak and noodles. gkc During the deer season many sportsmen see the game laws abused, but not all sportsmen close their eyes. Hats off to this week's Sportsman of the Week-Dick Buehler. Dick observed 2 dead mule deer that had been shot and left untagged. Dick waited for the hunters to return, they neglected to return. Instead of leaving the deer to waste Dick contacted me and the meat as a result will be utilized. gkc It's your wildlife to use, not abuse |
