The Democrats were favored over Republicans in almost all spots I on the ballot, t i As a result of the recent organization of a corporation known as "Rare Metals Inc." represented by prominent members of the mining industry indus-try in Utah, a concentrating plant was planned for a location near the town of Moab, for the processing of low grade carnotite ores of which there were large quantities quan-tities in the immediate area. The Navajo Indian ceremonial ceremon-ial dances, held on the San Juan river bed near Bluff, drew many spectators from the Moab area. 20 Years Ago A group of 30 uranium industry leaders was to tour Moab, sponsored by the Uranium Institute of America. Visits were scheduled to the Utex Exploration Company and the Uranium Reduction mill. Mayor J. W. Corbin had outlined city mail delivery service in a personal appeal to Moabites to send necessary data to the post office for the service. Delhi-Taylor was awaiting survey reports on potash deposits in Grand County. The company reported it would not let the development sit idle after the investment in exploration explor-ation the past several years. 10 Years Ago Bids were opened at a special meeting of the Grand County School Board for construction of the high school track. The project was to begin soon and be completed in five weeks. About 50 per cent of the deer hunters had bagged their game the first weekend of the hunt. Deer were in exceptionally exception-ally good condition because of the heavy acorn crop. Mrs.. Essie Bailey was honored by friends and family on her 80th birthday. |
