( f : DON HIXLMAN Mr. Don Hillman, a new teacher at Grand County High School, says he enjoys teaching teach-ing in Moab. This is Mr. Hillman's first teaching assignment. as-signment. He is currently teaching U.S. History. Mr. Hillman was raised in Dallas, Texas where he graduated grad-uated from Bryan Adams High School. Mr. Hillman attended Ricks College in Rexberg, Idaho for two years and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah for three years. He earned a B.A. degree in history and minored in political polit-ical science. Mr. Hillman was the secretary in the Phi Alpha Theta History Society. Mr. Hillman said he would like to go back to school this summer to get his master's degree. Mr. Hillman likes Moab and is looking forward to visiting the Canyonlands area. Mr. Hillman is married and has a son 18 months old. He enjoys camping, niking, ana most other outdoor activities. Mr. Hillman has made several trips into the Yellowstone Yellow-stone wilderness. He has also climbed the Middle Teton in Teton National Park. Mr. Hillman would like to spend his vacations going back east and visiting the historical sites. For the second formation, the band wandered around as the "stations" were "experiencing "exper-iencing network difficulties." The difficulties were cleared up and the band formed the word "HEY," and they then played the theme from the TV series, "Happy Days." They then marched off the field to the drum cadence and concluded con-cluded their show. The band would like to thank everyone for their support during the football season and for commenting on the shows they presented. The band would also like to thank Miss Phyllis Reed, ' Director, for putting so much time and effort into each of the shows. PEP ASSEMBLY Pep assembly was held last Thursday before the game between GCHS and Manti. First was the flag salute and the school song, "Red and White." In a sophomore skit, the Devils had to follow the red brick road to the end, using their imagination to get past Manti's tough guys. The Pep Club presented The Echo which got a few laughs. The drill team performed a fantastic fantas-tic drill to the "Theme from S.W.A.T." Cheerleaders led the students in "vibrating" yells for the competition cheer. RODEO CLUB "There are twenty-one' members mem-bers in the High School Rodeo Club this year. Their officers for '76-'77 are Shawn Knus-ton, Knus-ton, President; Paul O'Brien, Vice President; Jill Krist, Secretary; Brenda Boyd, Vice Secretary; Treasurer, Cindy Shepherd; and Bobbie Beman, reporter. They have been busy raising money by cleaning up the rodeo grounds and getting ready for the rodeo season. DRILL TEAM The Moab Red Devil Drill Team Derformed well Thurs day, October 21. Their drill was presented in front of the student body Thursday morning during the pep assembly, then again to the public during half-time activities of the game against the Manti Templars Thursday night. The precision drill was to the Theme from Swat which tied in with the band's performance to the T.V. program-Network Difficulties. Difficul-ties. The Devilettes are beginning begin-ning new drills for the basketball season. DEBATE WORKSHOP Sixteen GCHS speech students stu-dents attended a four hour debate workshop last Thursday Thurs-day conducted by Professor Jed Richardson, Head of Debate in the Speech Communication Com-munication Program at B.Y.U. During the morning meeting held at the high school, Richardson explained the principles prin-ciples of debate and how to set up cases. The local students will begin preparing now for spring competition on the topic of penal reform. Miss Maralee Roberts, GCHS speech instructor, in-structor, taped the session and was pleased with student U |
