Iirookv New York; T. P. Cook. Chicago; Frank .Taynes, San Francisco, and .1. Levin, Atlanta. The letter reads as follows: "This company has received petitions within the last sixty days from sixteen offices in the West and .Southwest asking ask-ing for an increase (if 10 prr cent in the salaries of employees. These petitions peti-tions have been given careful consideration, consid-eration, bearing in mind that the company com-pany did not discriminate in favor of a few offices, but that any action taken shoula he general. "In this connection it has been necessary ne-cessary to consider the enormously increased in-creased cost of all kinds of tcl"iraph material, which, in many cases, has been from 50 to 1 ) pt r cent, while the tariff rates on messages and other traffic traf-fic are very low in view of the demands de-mands of the public for ever increasing facilities and more rapid service. In fact many of these rates are relics of former ruinous competition and are unprofitable. Notwithstanding these facts, the company has decided to increase in-crease the salaries of operators at its principal offices throughout the country 10 per cent, from March 1, 1907. Robert Rob-ert C. dowry, president." The order increasing salaries will benefit about fortv men in this city, according ac-cording to AdiJjih II. May, Salt Lake Citv manager of the Western Union. |
