Show .'. "!'' "V ' iWouid. .'teceiVedr in Civil War Believed to Have Hastened Collapse of the Register of Land Office. Capt. Frank D. Hobbs, Register of the United States Land office in this city, died in the Merey hospital in Chicago Chi-cago yesterday afternoon. Capt. Hobba had been at the Mercy hospital for some time for treatment. At times it waa thought that he would recover, and his many friends in this city were unprepared un-prepared for the news of his death. Capt Hobbs waa well known in this city, where be had lived since 1889, when he was appointed Register of the Land offiee by President Harrison. He was ont during the Cleveland administration, adminis-tration, but was appointed again by President MeKinley. and again by President Pres-ident Roosevelt. In all ne has been connected with the Land office in this citv thirteen yeara. When the war broke out Capt. Hobbs enlisted in the Union army at the age of 15 years. He was badlv wounded during the war, and it is believed that the wonnd haatened the end. The body, accompanied by his widow u4Q. daughter, will be brought to Salt jf,tf City for interment. |
