Show COEDS PARTING FOR HOLIDAYS Here's that Christmas sob story that city editors think is so important im-portant around this time of year. This one is really sort of sad, too. and It's the real thing. It's all about Helen D. Davis, who goes to school at the University Univer-sity of Utah, and lives at Carlson hall. Her home is 'way up In Island Falls. In the northern part of the province of Saskatchewan in Canada. And you have to get there by dog team. , "It would take me a week to go home for Christmas." Helen said, a bit wistfully Monday, as she watched lucky Barbara Brewer-ton Brewer-ton park her suitcase to go home to Cardston.' Alberta, Canada, "so I'm going to Brigham City to spend the holidays wirh my grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Williams." But It won't be quite like home for Helen. Her father. R. W. Davis, Is an engineer up in Saskatchewan, Saskatche-wan, and there are only about 70 people who live in Island Falls. "I sure would like to be there for Christmas," she said. "It may sound remote and lonely to you," she said, "but It's wonder- tutrreally." To get home she has to take the train to Winnipeg in Manitoba, and then up to Flin-Flon, which Is still In Manitoba. From there she trails by dog team 70 miles to her home. In the summer transportation transporta-tion Is done by canoeing as the region Is full of lakes. Barbara, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Brewerton. will spend Christmas with her family In Alberta. Al-berta. "I don't have as far to go as Helen," she said, "and I can hardly wait to get home." |
